Results third ERA-CAPS call on molecular plant sciences

The ERA-NET Coordinating Action in Plant Sciences (ERA-CAPS*) has announced the 12 transnational projects that have been selected for funding in frame of ERA-CAPS third transnational call, entitled “Europe-USA Call strengthening transnational research in the Molecular Plant Sciences” which was launched on 23 June 2016. The objective of this call is to stimulate collaboration between research teams of different countries in order to achieve the highest quality projects, increase synergies between national programmes and strengthen international research in molecular plant sciences. Nine funding agencies from Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Poland, Serbia, Switzerland, U.K. and USA participate in the call with a total indicative budget of up to EUR 15 000 000.

The call was implemented in two steps. More than 600 research teams from 21 European and non-European countries submitted proposals to the call which closed on 28 September 2016. Despite the budget constraints in some of the participating countries, the 12 top ranked proposals have been recommended for funding. The selected projects involve 50 research teams (including 5 self-funded teams) from 10 different countries and cover a wide spectrum of molecular plant sciences. The research themes that were most commonly addressed were food security and biotic/abiotic stresses followed by adaptation to a changing climate.

The full list of funded projects and investigators is available on the ERA-CAPS website

*: Building on the ERA-NET ERA-CAPS, that was supported by the European Commission’s 7th Framework Programme until mid-2015, ERA-CAPS has become a self-sustained network. The network comprises 11 partners from 10 European countries and the USA, and 9 observers.
