Results SUSFOOD2 cofunded call

The ERA-NET Cofund SUSFOOD2 on sustainable food production and consumption, started with the launch of a joint transnational call for Research / Research and Innovation proposals in the field of sustainable food production and consumption on 9 January 2017. Project consortia were able to submit "Research" or "Research and Innovation" proposals on four topics:

  • TOPIC 1: Innovation in food processing technologies and products
  • TOPIC 2: Providing added value, increased resource efficiency and reduction of waste in sustainable food systems
  • TOPIC 3: Understanding consumer behavior and food choices
  • TOPIC 4: Harmonisation of the methods and metrics for integrated assessment of sustainability of food products and food patterns

95 pre-proposals were submitted to the SUSFOOD2 cofunded call, and 30 consortia were invited to submit their full-proposal. On 13 December 2017 the SUSFOOD2 consortium selected 12 projects for funding. SUSFOOD2 will fund the research projects with a total budget of EURO 11 500 000, including top-up funding from the European Commission. From mid 2018 onwards, 73 research teams from 17 countries will start their work for three years to achieve new insights related to the following topics:

  • Topic 1: 6 projects (BIOCARB-4-FOOD, InProVe, FUNBREW, MEFPROC, DISCOVERY, ProSeaFood)
  • Topic 2: 4 projects (AVARE, SPAREC, ImPrOVE, SUSPUFA)
  • Topic 3: 2 projects (SUSCHOICE, PLATEFORMS)

The call was open to research projects and research & innovation projects (with industry involvement). Half of the selected projects fall under each category. In the research & innovation projects, 50% of the project participants come from industry (thereof 64% SMEs).
